Gucci “Private Sale”

— Fri, 21st May 2010 —

In store, Gucci is now taking 40% off ready-to-wear, and 30% off footwear, for those who politely inquire about its S/S “private sale.” As Madison Avenue Spy notes, the sale goes public June 1, while the markdowns typically increase to 75% off by mid-July. “Why not wait?” we’re often asked. Mostly, because stock dwindles as time passes and markdowns increase.

  1. Isn’t the better question “Why bother with Gucci? Tom Ford left years ago, and Eurotrash is thoroughly out of fashion.”

  2. Hearing someone so angrily dismiss a brand makes me think there’s about a year before it’s in fashion again.

  3. Went this afternoon most shoes are sold out, if you are a 7/8 the selection is great but any bigger and it is slim pickings. some of the clothing is on sale although very limted sizes

  4. Was in the neighborhood today, so I stopped by to see what was on offer. I found maybe one thing in the entire store I’d have been willing to wear (aside from some ties that I liked), which was a $2500 blazer….that I already basically have (and got for $300 at the Paul Smith sample sale).

    What overpriced crap.

  5. Hey Anon, We randomly awarded the bag to one retweeter on 5/20, and they picked up the bag at the sale this weekend. We’re presently checking with the winner to see if he’s comfortable with us publishing his twitter name. Stay tuned. Also, we don’t think it would make a particularly interesting post, but — in the spirit of full transparency — we’d be happy to email you a graph illustrating the exact formula we used to randomly pick the winner. (Creating the formula was actually quite a time-consuming process.) Also, if you’re interested, we’ll happily send you a Billy Kirk pr contact, to confirm that the whole contest was on the up & up. Let us know anytime at contact @
