I love this sale, cornerstone of my wardrobe.
These brands like Steven Alan and Band of Outsiders sure have a lot of sample sales. Do they ever sell any of their shirts at retail? The Barney’s next to my office always has stacks of the things, and then one day they’re all 40% off.
i think the amount of stuff on sale this early…the latest clothing as well…indicates that there is a glut of inventory and little sales at the retail level.
its good for us but im sure the smaller players are really struggling. i get the sense that if any labels expanded dramatically over the last 3 years, they are in trouble.

allen–Its more or less a given that large amounts of clothes by practically any brand are sold at a discount. Look at brands bigger than Steven Alan–Theory, John Varvatos, Marc by Marc Jacobs… endless sales on Gilt, Barneys Warehouse Sale, Barneys and Saks Outlet stores, Filene’s Basement and Loehman’s, Bluefly, etc etc. Brands can often make money, even if the prices are lower than retail. It was easy to find lots of good clothes on sale before 2008, still is.
Joe R–I think this year Steven Alan must have begged the bloggers not to mention the preview. But it’s hard to imagine they aren’t having one. Typically they don’t check names, but this year, who knows?
