Mark McNairy for G.H. Bass loafers (Original markdown: $350)

For whatever reason (a surge in “sample sale” sites; the fact that overstock from other Barneys sales has yet to reach NYC) the racks already appeared depleted on Day 1 of the Barneys Warehouse Sale. As is always the case, expect tons of Michael Kors, Hugo Boss, and Hickey Freeman in suiting, along with a sprinkling of a Hickey, Zegna, Loro Piana, Isaia, Piattelli, and Etro. The small designer section (toward the western-most wall where the overcoats typically reside) is a sad sight. As usual, expect tons of dress and sport shirts, and Steven Alan reverse-seams in particular. As you can see in the slide-show, we found some handsome yet pricey overcoats, while the sportier outerwear is nearly as pitiful as the designer stock. The shoes, meanwhile, are dominated by Barneys house-brand lace-ups and Co-Op rejects, though we did spot some winners, mostly from Mark McNairy‘s collection  for G.H. Bass, and (to a less degree) Florsheim by Duckie Brown. In the jeans department — hardly the sale’s specialty — we’re talkin’ Levi’s Capital E’s, Nudie‘s, John Varvatos Star USA, and  Rag & Bone‘s.

  1. Gitman Brothers for $100 at a WAREHOUSE SALE is just obscene. Oh well, I’m sure they’ll be some left when they go to half off the BWS price.

  2. i wonder why the barneys buyers keep buying the same labels that dont sell.

steven alan has got a real problem on his hands.

  3. Bah! Steven Alan is doing just fine. There are still plenty of kids willing to drop the full retail pot o’ gold on a reverse seam shirt (~$170). The BWS is just fine once the prices drop, otherwise it’s nothing to make a fuss about if you’re a Choosy Beggar.

  4. I can’t seem to understand how or why the price point for button down collared shirts has reached the $165 -$170 area. That’s just ridiculous. I think Barney’s inventory is, if nothing else, current. Saks on the other hand is a fucking complete mess.

  5. Do prices drop everyday? I didn’t know they would be getting more, I thought the sale would end soon. Found a pair of Balenciaga jeans on the 2nd day for about half off so the sale wasn’t that bad. Wish Band of Outsiders was cheaper.

  6. No, J. The first series of markdowns occur about a week into the two-week sale. (Give or take, suits are marked down an additional 25%, designer stuff an additional 20%, etc.) From that point through the end of the sale, the markdowns generally occur every other day or so. We’ll keep you posted.

  7. Su much Ralph Lauren Black Label ( an entire table) plus so much Steven Alan and Band of Outsiders–likely purchases for the BWS and factory outlets.

  8. When do the restocks generally occur? I remember last year a good amount coming in from the LA sale…
