Saks Friends & Family Sale

— Mon, 18th October 2010 —

Online, Saks‘ friends & family sale — featuring 20% off select clothing and shoes — runs from Tuesday ’til Sunday, 10/19-10/24. In store, the sale runs Thursday to Sunday, 10/21-10/24. The pre-sale, during which time sales staff will set aside particular items, has already begun. Online, remember to use code FRIEND7.

Meanwhile, word is that Fall/Winter ’10 is going to be big on sales. It’s hard to imagine a repeat of the insanity that was F/W ’08, but the economy is still struggling and shoppers are holding back, which means retailers will be competing tooth & nail for your business.

Saks Fifth Avenue – 12 E 49th St at 5th – Main 212-753-4000, Suiting 212-753-2649, Shoes 212-753-2105 – Map

  1. I thought the F/W 08 madness occurred because retailers bought too much inventory for the holiday season. I figured that since then retailers control inventory much better. Did retailers misjudge inventory this year also?

  2. You’re right RK, reports suggest that retailers have reined in inventory (and manufacturers have slowed production) which would make a repeat of Holiday ’08 — i.e., 80% off in November — very unlikely. That said, there are rumors that retailers are still being overly optimistic about Holiday ’10. We’ll just have to wait and see.

  3. So does that mean we should wait until November to shop for items? Or should I take advantage of this 20% sale now?

  4. It’s always a trade-off between product selection and markdowns, DA. In other words, the longer you wait, the better the deals, but the fewer products you have to choose from. Sale shopping 101, my good man.

  5. Thanks for the early warning TCB.
I pulled the trigger on a couple of shoes on the jcrew website. They were running a 30% off on top of final sale items.
Since I knew what I wanted in the size I wanted I went for it.
38 (incl shipping; original $60) with shipping on Stan Smiths and 108 (with shipping; originally $230) for Red Wing wabasha chukkas.

  6. I don’t leave a response, however after looking at a few of

I do have a few questions for you if it’s allright.
Is it only me or does it look like a few of these comments appear as
