Barneys Warehouse Sale

— Wed, 24th August 2011 —

Here she comes… The sale you love to hate, and hate to love… The biggest discount shopping event of the year.. Yep, Barneys semiannual Warehouse Sale.

The festivities kickoff tomorrow morning, 8/25, at 8 a.m., but as any regular reader knows, no one cracks their wallet on Day 1 of this chess game of a sale. Whenever you visit — if you visit — stay focused with a pre-made wish list, stick to your sizing sections, and know that prices drop precipitously over the course of the two-week event. Here‘s what BWS looks like on Day 1 — and here‘s how severely the prices drop in 12 days.

Barneys Warehouse Sale – 255 W 17th St btwn 7th & 8th – 212-450-8400 – Map

  1. If you’re on the bigger side, then this is a good sale. If you’re smaller than a medium, then don’t bother.

  2. I will defend as well- got a Barneys Blazer, Burberry dress pants, Rag & Bone dress pants, a Tods Brown Leather classic belt, for $40 a peice, on top of that I got a dior tie for $20- total was around $180, I think i did pretty well.

  3. Bought an ivory Nigel Cabourn turtleneck for $35 down from $350. Minor damages, but nothing a weaver can’t fix. I also agree with most comments here, slim-pickings but there’s good stuff if you’re willing to dig.

  4. I went at lunch time. Most stuff is 75% off. I bought a Co-op winter coat, 4 Duchamp ties, and a Gittman Brothers shirt. The total was under $125. If you enjoy bargain shopping AND live close buy, go. But otherwise, probably not worth the effort.

  5. Just got back from the sale — ducked out of work for a couple hours. The selection is still quite good, IMO, especially given the level of the discounts. There are a ton of ties (I wasn’t in the market, so I didn’t look at prices or brands), a few suits (you’re out of luck there, at least in the smaller sizes), some dress shirts, a good selection of blazers, a good selection of dress and “casual” trousers, a ton of casual shirts (although heavily skewed to the larger sizes) and a small amount of outerwear.

I picked up a cashmere Isaia blazer for $280, a j.brand button-up shirt for $12.50 and Theory dress pants for $30.

Also, at least when I was there this afternoon, it was as calm as I’ve ever seen the warehouse sale.

  6. Went on Monday. Scored a Kiton tie, and Isaia and Barbera dress shirts, for something like $45, $80 and $65. Also saw a couple of Isaia ties and another Kiton, but they weren’t great. They had some made-for-Barneys (in Canada) dress jackets using Loro Piana cloth in the $250 vicinity.
