Rules To Live By

— Fri, 16th January 2009 —

Our favorite style tips are the ones that aren’t affected by time. We therefore subscribe to Alan Flusser‘s school-of-thought, which abides by basic geometric and compositional principles rather than fleeting trends. Season after season after season, for example, a swept collar with a low, wide stance will always frame an angular face better than, say, the vertical slant of a point collar. Flossin’

— Thu, 15th January 2009 —

So, New York just ranked 10th among all U.S. cities in a study on annual average household menswear spending. (Our fellow “average” New Yorkers — from all 5 boroughs, mind you — apparently spend $1,100 a year on clothes.) What does that mean? Little, as far as we’re concerned. It would, however, be interesting to have a sober panel of judges determine the ‘best dressed’ cities, and then compare that list to average household spending. [WWD via The Cut]
