Wednesday, 1/18, through Saturday, 1/21, STORY is having a sample sale at their Chelsea shop. If you’re unfamiliar, you’re missing out. STORY is a retail concept store that completely changes it’s design and merchandise every 4-8 weeks to fit a different theme. Past collections include “Disrupt”, “Making Things” and “F-Word.” This week they’re going into the archives to bring back items from stories throughout the past year. Expect a very eclectic mix of clothing, housewares and fixtures from over 300 brands.

The Empowerment Plan – MLK Day Giveaway

In such a crowded and fast paced city as New York, focus is critical. Blocking out the commotion is necessary for both productivity and sanity.

While we scour the streets chasing ambitions and final sales, it’s easy to overlook the millions of others in need of a safe place to sleep. This homeless population is woven into the fabric of the city tighter than any pair of selvedge jeans. Like everyone else, lack of awareness and opportunity are roadblocks to them living their best lives.

Luckily, The Empowerment Plan is on a mission for change. Founded in 2012, the Detroit based company hires homeless people to make coats for others living on the street. The real game changer is in the construction of the outerwear. Each coat is made from donated Carhartt fabric and converts into a full sleeping bag. With this mix of ingenuity, passion and design, The Empowerment Plan has improved the lives of over 20,000 people.

VFILES Sample Sale

Thursday, 1/12, through Saturday, 1/14, VFILES is having one of their off the wall sample sample sales. Their flyer basically says it all. “Every brand, every item, discounted for you and your family. Why not get something for little cousin Steve, your aunt who you bought you the best holiday gift, your dog, or that special person in your life.” The only catch is that you have to show your VFILES profile at the door. Luckily it doesn’t take long to create one.

Most of you know, you never know what you’ll get at these sample sales and we mentioned Bonobos’ sample sale was massive. They surprised us with a pretty nice shoe selection. And no Bonobos doesn’t make shoes, not yet at least. Here’s what we found.
