Rothman’s

— Sun, 6th June 2010 —

Rothman’s isn’t known for its exclusivity or cutting-edge styles, but its friendly salesman and on-site tailors sure know their way around a suit.  Downstairs, where the store’s magic lies, you’ll find some 2,000 specimens from traditional Italian brands like Canali and Corneliani, along with younger, slim-cuts from Zegna and John Varvatos. Less impressive, its first floor offers basics like linen button-downs and polo shirts from Penguin, Theory, and Scotch + Soda.

Levi’s

Levi’s is denim. End of story. Reverence for classic 501’s and collaborations with the likes of Robert Geller and Junya Watanabe keep its social currency high despite competition from countless rivals. Its broad selection and reasonable price-points don’t hurt, either. Its apparel, on the other, is typically best left on the racks.

Camouflage

Famed custom tailor Alan Flusser immortalized this Chelsea haberdashery in his ’96 book, “Style and the Man: How and Where to Buy Mens’ Clothes.” Need we say more? Always expect a well-edited selection of high-end sportswear and outerwear from Smedley, Etro, Paul Smith, and C.P. Company. The furnishings — glasses, ties, pocket squares, socks, cufflinks, etc. — are also topnotch.
