Through the end of the month, high-end sportswear label Generra is taking 60% off F/W ’09, including well made wool jackets down from $250 to $100; fitted shirts down from $165 to $60; jersey knits down from $90 to $35; etc. Big in Japan, but virtually unknown stateside, we’ve long admired Generra’s dedication to solid construction and (most often) clean design.

Zara is currently hosting its semi-annual sale featuring up to 50% off most in-store stock. Trendy and not particularly well made, this Spanish purveyor of “fast fashion” wouldn’t be our first, second, or even third choice for, well, anything. That said, the jackets, shirts, and pants are relatively versatile — from the office to the party — and the cuts, while Euro-trashy, ain’t always half-bad.

Just back from a little skiing and New Year’s reveling in Utah, it’s been brought to my attention that Paul Stuart is hosting its semi-annual sale featuring up to 60% off F/W stock in store and online. Writes a tipster, “There were some nice shirts on sale … A few sweaters and ties too … They had the regular stuff and some Phineas Cole mixed in … Shirts were between $98 and $125.“
Michael on W 4th — once upon a time L’uomo on Bleecker — is presently taking 40% off a nice selection of high-end Italian sportswear. We’re talking outerwear, sweaters, shirts, pants and the like from Herno, Stone Island, CP Company, Belstaff, etc. Last holiday season, the West Village boutique increased markdowns to 70% off by February.
