On the shortlist of wardrobe staples every man must own — along with a black or navy two-button peak-lapel suit; a solid cashmere v-neck; a pair of A.P.C. New Standard‘s; etc. — Barbour jackets rank near the top. As the jackets only improve with age, eBay and eBay UK remain totally legitimate resources. If you prefer something off the rack, there’s Peter Elliot‘s Barbour shop uptown, which, through Christmas Day, will take 25% off a jacket of your choosing in exchange for a used coat capable of keeping a homeless person warm through the winter. Expect 50% markdowns in January, but a store clerk promised us that stock will be slight. At Bergdorf’s, meanwhile, a clerk just told us to expect 30% markdowns perhaps by next week.
